Pop up youth spaces for young people this Easter

Young People in Shropshire can now enjoy more Easter activities across the county thanks to HAF (Holiday Activities and Food) funding.

Shropshire Council’s youth support team have been successful in their bid to run HAF enrichment activities for young people this Easter. The HAF programme, funded by the Department of Education, provides support to children in receipt of free school meals through holiday periods.

The Pop-Up Youth Spaces can be found across the county, and will offer a safe space for young people from 11 years old upwards to come together and enjoy activities.

Young people will also be able to chat to their local youth support worker and find out what help and opportunities there are to support their wellbeing.

Dates and locations include:

4 April

Market Drayton: The Zone, Fairfields – 3pm to 6pm
Shrewsbury: The Lantern, Pop-Up Youth Space with the Cycle Hub – 2.30pm to 5pm

5 April

Wem: Recreation Ground – 3pm to 6pm
Shrewsbury: Meole Brace MEET place, Ready Steady Cook session – 3pm to 5pm

6 April

Oswestry: Skate Park ground – 3pm to 6pm.

11 April

Shrewsbury: Greenacres Recreation ground, Pop Up Youth Space and sports activities with Embrace – 2.30pm to 5pm.
Ludlow: Wheeler Road Skate Park – 3pm to 6pm.

12 April

Shrewsbury: Meole Brace MEET place, open session Ready Steady Cook – 3pm to 5pm.
Cleobury Mortimer: Catherton Park – 3pm till 6pm.

13 April

Bridgnorth: Crown Meadow – 3pm to 6pm.

Kirstie Hurst-Knight, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for children and education, said:-

“I’m really delighted to see our that youth support service has received this funding to extend our support to young people.

“Our Youth Pop-Up spaces are a fantastic opportunity for young people to join in a host of activities, socialise with friends and to seek advice and support in a safe place.

“If you or someone you know will benefit from these sessions, please do come along.”

Helena Williams, Shropshire Council’s youth support team manager, added:-

“The youth support team will be out in communities over the Easter holidays creating their Pop Up Youth Spaces. The team will be utilising green spaces to provide activities for young people.  Pop Up Youth Spaces create safe places for young people ages 11 plus.  Activities will include bike maintenance, team games, sports, and arts activities. There will also be opportunities for informal learning.”

Shropshire HAF, managed by Shropshire Council, is an exciting programme of holiday activities.

Over the Easter/spring, summer and Christmas/winter holidays, schools, voluntary and community organisations and childcare providers are running activities.

There are free places available on the HAF programme for children and young people aged 4 (reception class age) to 16, who are eligible for benefits-related free school meals and for those who have been referred onto HAF by a professional.
