Free lecture on “the man who invented management”

“The man who invented management” will be the subject of a free public lecture at University Centre Shrewsbury (UCS).

People are invited to Guildhall to hear about Peter Drucker – writer, professor, management consultant and self-described ‘social ecologist’ – on Thursday 3 March 2016.

The talk, from 7pm to 8.30pm, will be presented by Professor Peter Starbuck, Shropshire resident and expert on Peter Drucker.

Professor Starbuck’s background in management spans more than 50 years, and he has written extensively on Drucker in his own right as well as making contributions to other leading management books.

In recognition of his expertise in this field, Professor Starbuck’s latest acknowledgement is being only the third person ever to receive a Certificate of Honorary Membership of the Drucker Society Europe. The award was made in Vienna in November 2015, at the world-ranking Drucker Global Forum. He is also Chairman of the Drucker Society London.

Professor Starbuck said:

“I first became aware of the work of Peter Drucker in the mid-1970s, when I read Drucker’s Management: Tasks, Responsibilities and Practices. I related practically to his ideas and was an immediate convert.

“Hailed by BusinessWeek as “the man who invented management”, Drucker has directly influenced a huge number of leaders from a wide range of organisations.

“Studying and applying Drucker’s ideas can help organisations to succeed, and in particular avoid the mistakes of the past – whether they are private, public or charitable.”

Professor Starbuck’s experience includes being a partner in a construction training and house-building business among many entrepreneurial ventures, as well as an Adviser to 10 Downing Street on Affordable Homes Initiatives.

Guildhall is UCS’ learning and research base at Frankwell Quay in Shrewsbury (SY3 8HQ).
