An open day is being held at Castlefields housing estate in Oswestry from 11am to 2pm on Tuesday 27 August 2013 to give local people, and potential tenants, a chance to see and look around some newly refurbished properties, and to give children an opportunity to get involved in some fun activities.

Located on the edge of Oswestry town centre, Castlefields comprises a combination of two-bed flats and three-bed maisonettes, all managed by Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing.

A number of properties are now available to let, and people will be able to look around them at the open day. A wide range of activities for children of all ages will be available.

Tom Pawley, Housing Officer for Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing, said:

“For the past several years, there has been a large amount of anti-social behaviour on the estate, but we are working hard to address this. As well as upgrading some of the properties, we have established a ‘good neighbour’ agreement, which aims to ensure that all residents respect and get along with each other, while receiving relevant support and services from their landlord and other partner agencies.

“This work will make Castlefields a better, happier place to live, and I encourage people to come along on Tuesday to find out more, to see the estate, and to join in the wide range of activities that will be provided.”

Following concerns raised by residents about anti-social behaviour, a Local Lettings Plan has been produced to address concerns about who might be offered available properties. This plan will continue to ensure that suitable allocations will be made, particularly with regard to the age of prospective tenants and to their backgrounds.

As part of a wider action plan to identify and remedy any problems on Castlefields, the Local Lettings Plan will help to increase the potential for new tenants to contribute positively to the local community.
