White Ribbon Day – speaking up for women and girls
At Shropshire Council, we’re proud to stand together this White Ribbon Day 2025 – speaking up for women and girls and showing what’s possible when we act as one united force.
As a White Ribbon Accredited Organisation, through our ongoing White Ribbon work, we’re deeply committed to building a culture where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued, both within our workplace and across our wider communities.
The White Ribbon is the globally recognised symbol to end men’s violence against women and girls. Since the inception of the White Ribbon movement 34 years ago in Canada, the White Ribbon has become an important symbol in the fight to end gender-based violence.
We are determined to make it clear that violence and silence have no place here, and we actively encourage all staff and partners to join us in fostering an environment rooted in dignity, equality, and support for all.
Cllr Ruth Houghton, portfolio holder for social care said:
White Ribbon Day reminds us that ending violence against women and girls is everyone’s responsibility. As a White Ribbon accredited organisation, Shropshire Council is proud to promote respect, equality, and safety for all.
By standing up and speaking out, we are helping to create safer, more respectful spaces where everyone is empowered to thrive.

Let’s show the power of unity. Let’s speak up.
