Shropshire Council’s Shropshire Local Mobile service will now be coming to Ellesmere for a four-month trial period, making it even easier for residents to get face-to-face, in-person support to help access Shropshire Council services.

The new service will launch on Tuesday 28 July from 10am to 4pm, initially for four weeks, on every fourth Tuesday of the month. If it proves successful, Shropshire Council hopes to extend dates. The service will take place at the Our Space Community Hub, Trimpley Street, Ellesmere SY12 0AE.

Shropshire Local Mobile will launch at Ellesmere on Tuesday 28 July from 10am to 4pm, initially for four weeks, on every fourth Tuesday of the month. The service will take place at the Our Space Community Hub, Trimpley Street, Ellesmere SY12 0AE.

The Shropshire Local service is primarily aimed at residents who may find it difficult to access council services online or by calling customer services. Trained council staff take the time to sit down with residents, talk through their issues, and help them to get the right services at the right time.

Typically, staff at Shropshire Local help residents access everything from Blue Badge applications and concessionary travel, to housing options and parking, plus a wide range of cost-of-living support, such as Council Tax assistance, Housing Benefit, Crisis Resilience Fund.

There are two main Shropshire Local hubs, at the Guildhall in Shrewsbury and at Ludlow Library. Shropshire Local Mobile reaches residents in other parts of the county with drop-in days at Oswestry, Bridgnorth, Market Drayton, Shifnal, Bishop’s Castle, Highley, Albrighton, Broseley and Whitchurch.

Sarah Marston, Cabinet member for Communities & Environment, said:

“Bringing the Shropshire Local Mobile service to Ellesmere really is great news for the local community. It means more residents can access vital support locally, without having to travel or struggle online. It’s absolutely vital that Shropshire Council keeps finding new ways to connect with residents, so we can reach people with the services they need from us.

“Shropshire Local provides such an important service. The team at Shropshire Local do such an amazing job, really taking the time to talk to customers and understand their challenges. I know that very often, residents don’t know what services are available to them, and the Shropshire Local team are experts at helping people get what they need, when they need it.”

“I’d urge anyone in the Ellesmere area who wants to speak to someone face-to-face to come along. If enough people come, then we hope to expand the Ellesmere service beyond the current proposed dates.”

Rachel Davies, Service Manager at Our Space, added:

“Our Space are really pleased to be hosting Shropshire Local from our new Community Hub. We know that this will be a beneficial resource for the local community, giving them the opportunity to access valuable face to face support. We look forward to welcoming Shropshire Local to Our Space.”
