Lane to Monkmoor allotments repaired thanks to council’s highways contractor

More than 30 potholes on a private lane leading to Monkmoor allotments in Shrewsbury have been filled, after Shropshire Council’s highways contractor Kier volunteered to repair the road surface.

In total, three tonnes of stone provided by Kier was laid on the lane by two operatives working from the back of a 12-tonne truck, with the deepest pothole standing at 80mm.

Dan Morris, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways, said:

“During the recent resurfacing work on Monkmoor Road, we were approached by the allotment users to ask if it might be possible to also repair the private lane leading to the allotments. I’m very grateful that Kier were able to provide the three tonnes of material for the work, which I know has been well received by the allotment users and the local community. Special thanks go to Roger and Ronald who carried out this work.”

Ian Mclellan, general manager at Kier Transportation, added:

“It’s important for us to leave a lasting legacy for the communities we work in. Following the resurfacing works on Monkmoor Road and the community being so accommodating throughout the works, we were pleased to extend the positive impact along the private lane. Our teams volunteered their time and resources to provide a better road experience for residents and road users – particularly the allotment users, as the facility forms a key part of community life in the area.”

Resurfacing work on Monkmoor Road was carried out from 31 July to 25 August 2023.
