Related topics: Highways, transport and environmental maintenance

Work will be carried out to resurface the A458 Welshpool Road in Shrewsbury in the coming months as part of Shropshire Council’s annual resurfacing programme.

Work will be carried out in sections (see map) and will be co-ordinated with work being carried out for nearby housing or other developments, and work by utilities companies.

It had been hoped to resurface the road last year but work couldn’t be carried out due to planned utilities and housing development work.

Welshpool Road is one of more than 60 stretches of road in Shropshire set to be resurfaced in the 2024/25 financial year, as Shropshire Council continues its programme of work to improve the county’s roads.

The four work sections are as follow. Sections A and B will be resurfaced first, with C and D treated at a later date.

A. Oxon roundabout to Heath Cottage – to be resurfaced

B. Heath Cottage to West of Gains Park Way – resurfacing work to be aligned with work by housing developers.

C. West of Gains Park Way to Calcotts Lane – resurfacing work will be aligned with housing development work at Calcotts Lane once dates are known.  In the short-term the roads will be patched to ensure it is safe and serviceable.

D. Calcotts Lane to A5. Resurfacing work to be aligned with service station development at the junction with the A5, once dates for this work are known. In the short-term the road will be patched to ensure it is safe and serviceable.

Dates for the work will be added to the One Network interactive roadworks website once known. Search using reference 34701164.

Meanwhile, Racecourse Lane off Welshpool Road is due to be surface dressed this summer.

It’s one of almost 50 stretches of road across Shropshire set to be treated this spring and summer as part of Shropshire Council’s 2024 surface dressing programme.
