Flooding update Friday 22 Jan 22:15 – River levels rising in Bridgnorth – flooding expected on Severnside, Severn Terrace and Riverside

Related topics: Community / Health / Highways, transport and environmental maintenance

The River Severn in Bridgnorth reached 5.03m earlier this evening with levels expected to peak on Saturday morning. Property on Severnside, Severn Terrace, Riverside and local caravan parks are likely to be affected by flood water.

Residents are urged to plan routes for essential journeys carefully and only travel when necessary, following government lockdown advice. Please do not drive into flood water – it is highly dangerous and can cause further disruption to homes and businesses by pushing flood water into properties.

The following roads are currently closed:

  • A442 Sutton Maddock to Bandon Island
  • Doctors Lane Bridgnorth
  • Riverside, Bridgnorth
  • Southwell Riverside, Bridgnorth

Due to the scale of local flooding and high water levels, smaller and minor routes may be affected – please proceed with care and caution.

Riverside Car Park is closed- resident permit holders may use their permits at Innage Lane or Severn Street Car Park whilst road closures are in place for flooding.

Additionally, on Street Resident Permit holders from Friar Street, Riverside and Southwell Riverside can use their permits at Innage Lane or Severn Street Car Park whilst road closures are in place for flooding.

Sand bags have been place at Kier depot, Stourbridge Road (next to the salt barn) WV15 6AN and at Hampton Loade.

Our team will continue to monitor and work with the Environment Agency. River levels are expected to get very high and flow rates increase. Caution must be observed by all parties. Do not enter flood water.
