Shropshire Safeguarding Community Partnership are urging those with care and support needs who are suffering from abuse to come forward and seek help.

The call out marks the annual National Safeguarding Adults Week (today, Monday 16 November to Sunday 22 November 2020).

The campaign, led by the Ann Craft Trust, promotes the importance of safeguarding the health and wellbeing of adults, particularly those with needs for care and support across the UK.

One of key priorities of the partnership is to work together to help and protect adults who have care and support needs; are experiencing or at risk of abuse or neglect; and/or are unable to protect themselves against abuse or neglect because of their care and support needs.

Ivan Powell, Independent Chair of Shropshire Safeguarding Community Partnership, said:-

“One key priority of the partnership is to work together to help and protect adults who have care and support needs when they are at risk of abuse or neglect. This is especially important during this challenging time, because the pandemic places more challenges on how we can work together. The National Safeguarding Adults Week provides us with the opportunity to continue to raise awareness during these difficult times, and to remind staff and volunteers about their responsibilities, and how they can support people to be safe.

“It is important to talk to someone sooner rather than later if you are an adult who has care and support needs, or know or care about an adult with care and support needs and are concerned that they are being abused or neglected.”

If you have concerns ring 0345 678 9044 to discuss them, and get further advice and support from Shropshire Council’s First Point of Contact.

Shropshire Safeguarding Community Partnership is the strategic group in Shropshire which brings together senior representatives from each of the statutory organisations required by legislation to fulfil the roles of the Safeguarding Adult Board, the Safeguarding Children’s Partnership and the Community Safety Partnership for Shropshire.

The Safeguarding Adult Board objectives are to work together to help and protect adults who have care and support needs; are experiencing or at risk of abuse or neglect; and/or are unable to protect themselves against abuse or neglect because of their care and support needs.

Safeguarding Adult Boards must seek to achieve this objective by co-ordinating and ensuring the effectiveness of what each of its members does.
