A49 Leebotwood overnight closure for emergency resurfacing

Related topics: Highways, transport and environmental maintenance / Partner organisations

News from our partners Highways England

We are planning to carry out emergency resurfacing work on the A49 just south of Leebotwood after a lorry shed its load of offal along the road.

Attempts to remove the offal and return the road to a safe useable state weren’t successful and the decision was made to resurface the road. The tarmac was then removed from the road to allow the road to open with temporary traffic lights in place.

Laying of the fresh surface will involve an overnight closure of the A49 tonight, Wednesday 4 July 2018 9pm until Thursday 5 July 2018 6am. The road will then need its anti-skid surface reapplying on Thursday night using two-way traffic lights.

These timings are subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

How will it affect traffic?

Full overnight closure of the A49, a signed diversion route will be in place.

An emergency access route will be available at all times for the emergency vehicles throughout the works for the duration of the works.

A clearly signed diversion route will be in place. Motorists are advised to stick to the signed diversion routes as they have been chosen with both suitability and safety in mind.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disruption you may experience during this work. Every effort will be made to manage noise levels and additional lighting carefully, to minimise the local impact.
