Ellesmere’s new community centre is to be called Our Space, Ellesmere Community Centre and Library.

The new name was decided following a recent consultation in which local residents were asked to help choose a new name for the building and to suggest services that could be delivered from the centre.

The new centre – at the former Meres Day Centre on Trimpley Street – will provide community resources in Ellesmere alongside the provision of library services, customer services, day time opportunities for adults with learning disabilities, and day care for older people.

Building work is nearly complete so Our Space, Ellesmere Community Centre and Library will soon be open for daytime opportunities for adults with learning disabilities and day care for older people.  Plans are underway for the library to relocate to the centre in July 2017.

The Ellesmere Community Nursing Home will continue to provide support for the elderly on the first floor.

An open day will be held on Saturday 9 September 2017 to give residents the opportunity to look around the new centre.

The centre will be managed by Bethphage.

Peter Loose, Chief Executive of Bethphage, said:

“The new name chosen after public consultation reflects the community engagement we wish to foster in the new service. We look forward to supporting the people of Ellesmere to make this a vibrant community centre.”

Lee Chapman, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for health, adult social care and housing, said:

“We are pleased that the building works have gone to plan and that our vision for Our Space, Ellesmere Community Centre and Library to become a vibrant, exciting and dynamic community facility is coming to fruition.”
