Shropshire’s GCSE students and their teachers are being congratulated as new figures show that 2016 was another good year for GCSE results.

The GCSE league tables published today (Thursday 19 January 2017) show schools’ key performance measures including students’ achievement across eight key subjects.

The results indicate that the six schools with the highest average attainment score per pupil across eight subjects including English and mathematics are: The Priory School (Shrewsbury); Mary Webb School and Science College (Pontesbury); William Brookes School (Much Wenlock); The Corbet School Technology College (Baschurch); Belvidere School (Shrewsbury), and The Thomas Adams School (Wem).

The results also indicate that the six schools where pupils made the most progress across eight subjects including English and mathematics, are: Belvidere School; Oldbury Wells School (Bridgnorth); Mary Webb School and Science College; The Lacon Childe School (Cleobury Mortimer); The Thomas Adams School (Wem), and Bridgnorth Endowed School

David Minnery, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for children’s services, said:

“These results reflect the hard work and effort that our students have put into their studies and we congratulate them on their success.

“Our thanks also go to everyone across the school communities in Shropshire who have supported the students. This includes our highly professional and dedicated teachers and headteachers, school governors, support staff, volunteers and, of course, parents and carers whose support is so important to students’ success.”
