Snailbeach retaining wall repairs

Related topics: Community

Work to repair a damaged retaining wall on Stiperstones Road, Snailbeach is programmed to start on Monday 10 October 2016 and is expected to last for up to four weeks.

The work will involve constructing a new slab over the existing wall to carry a new steel parapet, and essential carriageway and kerbing works will be also be undertaken.

The work has been programmed to coincide with schools half term (24-28 October 2016). During the first week (10-14 October 2016) traffic will be controlled under Stop/Go boards: this is to allow for preliminary site setup, including access scaffold.

The road will then be closed to traffic from Monday 17 October to Friday 4 November 2016, as it is too narrow for the work to be carried out safely with the road open to traffic.

While the road is closed traffic will be diverted via Shelve and Plox Green.

Access for pedestrians will be available under supervision of the contractor, but may be limited at times. Cyclists and equestrian access will be available around the work, via adjacent lanes and bridleways.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transportation, said:

“It is appreciated that the need to close the road for these essential repairs will cause some inconvenience. Everyone involved will do all they reasonably can to reopen it as soon as possible.”

Heather Kidd, local Shropshire Councillor for Chirbury and Worthen, said:-

“I am delighted that the work will use Stop and Go boards for the first week. Also, that the signage will be more informative, and has been put in place to help local businesses and residents alike.”
