News from our partners Veolia

Twelve charities across Shropshire have benefited from the good recycling that residents are doing across the county.

Veolia, the waste contractor for Shropshire Council, have given £1,500 so far to local charities as part of the £6000 Recycling Prize Pot Campaign which was launched last October.

The campaign rewards residents that are recycling in the right way by giving them £100 that they can donate to a local charity.

The charities that have benefited so far are:

  • RJAH charity – £100
  • Roden Dogs Trust – £ 100
  • Severn Hospice – £200
  • Midlands Air Ambulance – £100
  • Hope House Children’s Hospice – £300
  • The Shropshire Blood Trust Fund – £100
  • Bishops Castle Dial a Ride – £100
  • Trust Lewis – £100
  • Marches Group Riding for the Disabled – £100
  • Grinshill Animal Rescue – £100
  • Lingen Davies Cancer Fund – £100
  • The Friendly Transport Service – £100.00

Speaking about the campaign, Steve Mitchell, Regional Director for Veolia said:

“It’s important for the environment that we all recycle as much as we can. Many residents do recycle, and we want to thank them for that. This campaign is raising awareness of the importance of recycling and is also benefitting the many worthy good causes across the county.”

Further information

Each month Veolia randomly selects one address from each of the collection areas in Shropshire (i.e. Bridgnorth, Oswestry, South Shropshire, North Shropshire, and Shrewsbury & Atcham). If the property selected is recycling in the right way, they receive a winning ticket for £100 which they can donate to a Shropshire charity of their choice.

The winning ticket is awarded once a month in each of the areas. Residents don’t know when, so they are being encouraged to recycle as much as they can each time they put their boxes out.
