More than 1200 people of all ages came out to play last week as part of Shropshire Council’s ‘Play Week’, which took place from Monday 3 to Thursday 6 August 2015.

During the week events were held in Craven Arms, Whitchurch, Bridgnorth and Oswestry.

The aim of the week was to support and participate in the annual campaign ‘National Playday’, which is a celebration of children’s right to play and a campaign that highlights the importance of play in children’s lives, whilst also encouraging people across Shropshire to come out and play.

‘Play Week’ was open to children and young people of all ages and their family. The events were free to attend and offered a number of activities including den-building, art and craft, hula hooping, glitter tattooing, giant games, sand pit, smoothie bike, music plus lots more.

Local groups and organisations also attended the events to add to the day and to show people what is available to access locally after the events had finished.

Ann Hartley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for children’s services, said:

“Once again, Shropshire Play Week has proven extremely popular. We are very pleased with the number of Shropshire people who came along to support the events and would like to thank everyone for making time for play.

“I would also like to thank all the local groups and organisations who supported the events, it wouldn’t be what it is without them! I think that National Playday is a great initiative and a worthwhile campaign, highlighting the importance of children’s play and encouraging families to get out and play. Shropshire Council’s Leisure Services are very proud to be able to support the campaign with the Shropshire Play Week.”
