Show your support for local project Big Spider

Related topics: Community / Partner organisations

Shropshire Voluntary and Community Sector Assembly and Shropshire Providers Consortium work together to support voluntary and community sector groups and organisations working in the county. More recently they have developed a new project named Big Spider. Big Spider is an online system that will allow voluntary and community groups to connect with each other and with: individuals, local businesses, town and parish councils and public sector agencies.

We recognise that we have a lot of brilliant people, groups and organisations and between us we have a wealth of assets. We are looking for financial support to develop Big Spider, an online system that will help us to share these assets and make better use of what we have across all our communities. Big Spider will allow its users to:

  • Find a service
  • Offer assets and resources to share
  • Share ideas
  • Request help with a problem
  • Share information, research and best practice
  • Highlight local issues
  • Give more to others through online donations to small, local projects
  • Establish new online networks
  • Do more to make a difference by learning how our skills and time can be put to best use.

Tim Barker, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for transformation performance (and voluntary sector lead) commented:

“Many people have an irrational fear of spiders. This Big Spider though will make great strides in helping our community organisations both network through its web and be far more efficient and effective. Please lend it your support.

Through the support of local financial expert Christopher Morland from Morland Potter Financial (one of Shropshire’s leading firms of mortgage and financial advisers), we have an opportunity to win funding from Aviva’s Community Fund for Big Spider. However, this project will not reach the finals without votes – we need your support!

Voting is open until Saturday 30 May 2015. Anyone can apply to vote and support the good causes listed on the Aviva Community Fund website. Please offer your support to this local project by visiting the website below and register to vote.

Each person voting on the Aviva website has 10 votes in total. Votes can be allocated to one project or across a number of projects. Members of Shropshire VCS Assembly and a number of other local projects are also hoping to win your support:

  • The Sparkle Project for Older People – Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin
  • Make over 4 Meals – Mayfair Community Centre
  • Hope House Garden Project – Hope House Children’s Hospices Shropshire
  • Shrewsbury Town Community Sports Trust
  • New Emergency Blood Bike – Midland Free Wheelers

In a recent statement, Rachel Wintle, Vice Chair of the Shropshire VCS Assembly, said:

The VCS Assembly is delighted to see so many local projects entered into this year’s AVIVA Community Fund awards. Please help us to turn Shropshire’s projects into winning entries by offering your support and casting your votes.”
