Broseley CE Primary School has been recognised as one of the most improved schools in the country in terms of the attainment and progress of its disadvantaged pupils since 2011, and awarded prize money of £1,000.

The prize was awarded in the key stage 2 category of the Pupil Premium Awards 2015, and the school was informed of their achievement in a letter from David Laws MP, Minister of State for Schools.

In his letter, David Laws said:

“It is clear that you and your staff have provided your disadvantaged pupils with a good start in life and prepared them well for secondary school.

“Your results also show that you are amongst the 100 top performing schools based on sustained improvement in attainment at level 4 or above in reading, writing and mathematics each year from 2012 – 2014.

“I would like to congratulate your staff, governors, parents and pupils for their hard work and success, and thank you for your leadership in making such a difference to the future success of your pupils.

“Finally, I would also encourage you to share your achievements with other schools so that they can learn from your strengths and experience.”

Ann Hartley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for children’s services – transformation and safeguarding, said:

“This is wonderful news and I congratulate all at the school on this much-deserved award, and on receiving recognition from the Minister for their achievements.

“I know that many schools in Shropshire have been working hard to make good use of the pupil premium funding and to improve provision and outcomes for disadvantaged pupils, work that has been supported by the council’s School Improvement team.”

Sarah Passey, Headteacher of Broseley C of E Primary School, said:

“I’m extremely proud to receive this award, which is testimony to the hard work of all the staff, governors and children of Broseley C of E Primary.”

The Minister has also invited the school to submit an application to win one of the larger prizes, including the national award of £100,000.
