Two new Doorstep Sport Clubs will be starting in Shrewsbury and Market Drayton.

A Doorstep Sport Club provides a vibrant and varied sporting offer to young people in disadvantaged communities that is designed to grow their motivation and ability to adopt a sporting habit for life.

Shropshire Council’s leisure services are pleased to announce that multi-sport sessions will be starting in Shrewsbury on Thursday 28 August 2014 at The Lantern Recreation Ground, and in Market Drayton on Thursday 4 September 2014 at Fairfields Playing Field. Sessions will then take place every Thursday.

Sessions are open to young people aged 13–19, with their first two sessions being free of charge, and then 50p per session thereafter.

Gwilym Butler, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for leisure, libraries and culture, said:

“We are really passionate about using sport to help make a real difference to young people’s lives.  StreetGames allows young people to try out a new sporting activity by bringing sport close to their homes in communities in Sundorne and Market Drayton.

“StreetGames enables us to bring sport to young people in a fun, friendly and social way.  We want it to inspire the next generation to take part, enjoy sport, give back to their communities and aspire to greater things.”
