A thriving arts and crafts group for people recovering from mental health problems is celebrating the completion of a stunning piece of art.

A glittering mosaic, depicting the mythological flying horse Pegasus, has been brought to life by the Pegasus Crafts Group who meet at Abbots Wood Day Centre in Monkmoor, Shrewsbury.

Group leader Mindy Evans explained:

“We are all absolutely thrilled with this piece of work.  Every member of the group has played a key role in bringing it together, decorating the mosaic with items from their homes and that are personal to them.

“The group have become close friends over the six weeks of this course, and have developed new skills that we will use to sell small craft items to continue to support the group’s activities.

“A big thank you must go to our tutor, Janice Barrett, who has inspired us all, and to the Eastern Shrewsbury Local Joint Committee (LJC) who provided funding to support the project.”

Miles Kenny, Chairman of Eastern Shrewsbury LJC, said:

“I am stunned by this piece of artwork, which demonstrates what can be achieved by people working together for a common goal – the outcome is inspiring.”

Pam Moseley, local Shropshire Councillor for Monkmoor, added:

“I hope that the group take immense pride from what they’ve achieved, and use it to show off their work and to help continue this important project.”
