Urgent sewer pipe repair work in Much Wenlock

The A4169 at Sheinton Street in Much Wenlock will be closed to traffic while Severn Trent Water carries out urgent repair work, but the town will remain open for business, councillors have said.

The road will be closed from Tuesday 27 May 2014 for about four days, with signed diversions in place, and full access to frontages will remain for residents of Sheinton Street.

Cars will be able to park at Much Wenlock Leisure Centre during its opening hours to try to help those who usually park on the road.

Severn Trent Water and its contractor, Amey, is renewing the sewer pipe running under Sheinton Street to restore flows to the public sewer.

Claire Wild, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, said:

“We appreciate that this road closure will cause some inconvenience for people, but we understand that Severn Trent Water has to ensure that sewer pipes are repaired when necessary.

“We have worked closely with the contractors undertaking the work, Amey, to try to minimise disruption as much as possible.”

David Turner, local Shropshire Councillor for Much Wenlock, added:

“We’ve been made aware of the urgent nature of this work and it cannot wait until later in the year.  I advised the probability of this road closure a few weeks ago.

“It needs to be undertaken when it won’t affect the school run and the busy programme of events in the town this summer.

“We therefore agreed with the town council, William Brookes School and the Chamber of Trade that half-term week is the best time to get the job done.”
