Thursday evening talks and workshops at Shropshire Archives return

Related topics: Leisure, culture and heritage

Following a successful programme earlier this year, Shropshire Council’s Shropshire Archives service has extended its Thursday evening talks and workshops.  This latest series began by looking at researching family histories on 3 October 2013, and will continue until December.  The next workshop will be this Thursday 17 October 2013.

The talks and workshops will run from 6pm-7pm during October and November this year, before resuming in February 2014 and continuing until April 2014.  The events provide a great opportunity to learn more about Shropshire’s fantastic archive collections and to see original documents first hand.

Tina Woodward, Shropshire Council’s deputy Cabinet member responsible for visitor economy, said:

“This is a great chance for people to find out firsthand about Shropshire’s fascinating archive collections, and to learn more about our county.  I am sure they will prove to be as popular as the previous series was.”

Topics that will be covered include:

  • an introduction to researching the history of your house
  • understanding Shropshire’s Iron Age hill forts
  • investigating the history of two of Shropshire’s great estates – Attingham Park and the Powis estate – and finding out about the people who lived there
  • uncovering Shropshire’s inspiration for a wide range of authors and writers.

All the workshops and talks costs £3; booking in advance is advisable as places are limited.
