People living in Alveley are being encouraged to take part in a community litter pick in the village on Wednesday 12 October 2011.

The litter pick has been organised by Shropshire Council’s environmental maintenance team as part of the national Big Tidy Up campaign, and is being carried out in addition to their routine streetcleaning schedule.

The litter pick will be focusing on Peacock Hill, Arden Way, Church Road, Chapel Road, Centre Place, Daddlebrook Road, Cooks Cross, Romsley View, Honeybourne Road, Bridge Road and some footpaths within Alveley.

Officers will be at Cooks Cross at 9.30am to meet volunteers and give a brief health and safety talk.  Litterpicking equipment will be provided.  The litter pick will finish at around noon.

Councillor Martin Bennett, Shropshire Council’s deputy cabinet member, said:

“I’d like to invite as many people as possible to come along on the day to lend a hand in this joint effort between the community and the council to keep Alveley clean and tidy.”

Tina Woodward, Shropshire Councillor for Alveley and Claverley, said:

“The turnout for the recent litter pick with the parish council and the school, assisted by Shropshire Council, showed enthusiasm for keeping our village tidy.

“I hope this next event will be as well supported and the village will look all the better for it.  If you have an hour or so to spare it would be great to see you there.”
