Fixed penalty notice issued at Cleobury Mortimer deep clean

Shropshire Council’s environmental maintenance team last week (Friday 1 July 2011) carried out a deep clean along Tenbury Road in Cleobury Mortimer.

The night before the deep clean, the road was coned off to ensure that there were no parked cars.  The team was then able to jet wash the pavements and remove dead leaves and weeds with ease.

While the deep clean was taking place, a member of the public was seen dropping some litter and then failing to pick it up.  They were therefore issued with a fixed penalty notice  for the offence of littering.

Councillor Martin Bennett, Shropshire Council’s deputy cabinet member, said:

“I would like to thank residents and visitors to Cleobury for moving their cars so that we could clean the road and pavement properly.  This has allowed us to collect a lot of debris, with the result that the road and pavements look very much better.”

Gwilym Butler, a Shropshire Councillor for Cleobury Mortimer, said:

“It’s good to see that Cleobury Mortimer is having this deep clean; although not long ago the town was voted the cleanest town of Great Britain, its nice to see standards are maintained.  I would like to thank all the residents along Tenbury Road for their co-operation on the morning of the deep clean.”

Madge Shineton, a Shropshire Councillor for Cleobury Mortimer, said:

“Thanks to all the residents who co-operated; it’s good to see this part of Cleobury really cleaned up for the summer.”

Just a few months ago Cleobury Mortimer became 2010/11 cleanest town in Britain, as voted by the Clean Britain Awards team.
