Shropshire Council has organised for a number of Year 9 schoolpupils and staff from Idsall School, as well as people from Shifnal Town Council, to join in a litter pick as part of a deep clean of the town next month (Wednesday 13 July 2011).

Open to anyone who would like to get involved, this deep clean has been organised by the council’s environmental maintenance team as part of the national Big Tidy Up campaign, and it’s being carried out in addition to their routine street cleaning schedule.

The clean will focus on Haughton Road, Haughton Lane, Worfe Road, Newport Road, High Street, Wheatfield Drive, Beech Drive, Broadway, Curriers Lane, Shrewsbury Road, Cheapside, Bradford Street, Aston Street, Aston Road, Victoria Road, Innage Road, Church Street, Market Place and Park Street.

Officers will be at Aston Street car park at 9.30am to meet volunteers and give a brief health and safety talk.  Litter picking equipment will be provided.

Councillor Martin Bennett, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member, said:

“It’s good that young people are taking a pride in Shifnal, and are ready to pitch in so that it looks its best.  I hope that this encourages more members of the local community to join them on the day, to show how much they care, and send a message of support to Idsall School and the town council for its efforts on everyone’s behalf.”
