Make a noise in Oswestry Library

Related topics: Leisure, culture and heritage

Shropshire Council is encouraging people to come along to Oswestry Library and discover what’s on offer for blind and partially-sighted people as part of the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) annual ‘Make a Noise in Libraries’ campaign.

The special ‘make a noise’ event, to take place on Monday 13 June 2011 from 4pm until 7pm, will offer people the chance to find out all about talking and large print books, specialist IT equipment to enable people with a sight loss to use the public computers, the Home Library Service, and much more.

There will also be an opportunity for people to talk to representatives of a number of organisations such as Oswestry Talking Newspaper, RNIB, Sight Loss Opportunity Group, Vision Technology, Shropshire Council’s sensory impairment team, and Chums Befriending Service.

Councillor Mike Owen, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for culture, said:

“I’d like to encourage as many people as possible to come along and find out what Oswestry Library has to offer.”

Martin Bennett, Shropshire Councillor for Oswestry East, said:

“Public libraries are places for everyone, and I am pleased that this event will underline that commitment.  I hope that as many people as possible will come to find out how their needs can be met.”

Vince Hunt, Shropshire Councillor for Oswestry West, said:

“Please come along and support this event.  Oswestry Library is a great facility, and this event helps to support and highlight the needs of the blind and partially-sighted in our community, and the organisations that help them.”

Light refreshments will be available on the day.
