How do you see your library in the future?

There is still time left for you to have your say on Shropshire’s library services.

Since February 2011, Shropshire Council’s Library Services have been consulting with both library customers and non-users of libraries across Shropshire, to find out what information, resources and services they still want, and what information services they would find useful and like to see provided.

The consultation complements the wider Future Libraries programme to look at how we can deliver library services to better suit the needs of local communities in more cost effective ways, and to ensure that our library services are ‘fit for the future’.

Part of the consultation includes asking residents what reference and information services they would like to see continue, when reference and information services are integrated into Shrewsbury Library in April 2011.

Councillor Steve Charmley, Cabinet member for culture and leisure, said:

“Over the past ten years, the Internet has driven a major change in how people search for information.  As a result of this there has been a dramatic increase in the use of online information, which includes  the Online Reference Library available 24/7 both in libraries and at home.

“We need to ensure that our library services are ‘fit for the future’, and now have an opportunity to look at how we deliver library and information services in the best and most efficient way to meet the needs of local residents and visitors.  I urge all residents to get involved and take part in Shropshire’s libraries consultation.  Your views will be considered in designing the future information service, not only in Shrewsbury but in libraries countywide.”

Whether you’re a library user or not, get involved and have your say on the future of libraries in Shropshire by completing our online survey, or alternatively download  a survey form at  http://www.shropshire.gov.uk/library.nsf.   You can also pick up a form from your local library.

Deadline for submissions is Friday 29 April 2011.
