The highly-acclaimed clarinettist Emma Johnson, with special guest John Suchet, will be performing at Shrewsbury’s United Reformed Church on Saturday 14 March 2020, with a concert titled “Tales from Vienna – the Music and the Magic”. The day is sponsored by Lanyon Bowdler.

Director of Shropshire Music Trust, Kate Hogwood said:

“Experience Vienna in its exciting heyday with classic music of the era played by celebrity clarinettist Emma Johnson and her friends, highlighted by fascinating insights from writer and radio personality John Suchet. The music is interspersed with readings about key historical moments as well as fascinating biographical details of the composers.”

The wonderful line-up of the Carduccci Quartet – with Chris West on double bass, Emma Johnson clarinet, Peter Francombe french horn, Philip Gibbon bassoon, the flautist Emma Halnan, and Paul Clarvis on percussion – will play music from a variety of composers including: Beethoven Septet Op20 , Schubert Adagio (from the Octet); Brahms Hungarian Dances, Léhar Merry Widow Waltz, and works by the Strauss family such as the Radetzky March, Frühlingsstimmen Waltz; Tritsch-Tratsch Polka; Kaiser-Walzer, and more. 

 

Pirates and Princessses – a family event to delight

Pirates and princesses – A family Concert with the Carducci String Quartet suitable for children aged 5-11 years, is being held between 2pm and 3pm at the United Reformed Church, English Bridge, Shrewsbury on Saturday 14 March 2020.

Director of Shropshire Music Trust, Kate Hogwood said:

“Join us for a dynamic, inspiring interactive performance, introducing the sound world of the string quartet. Come dressed as your favourite pirate or princess and be prepared to join in – with a chance to try an instrument. (Do bring your own if you play one). Anyone who has seen the Carducci’s acclaimed education work will know you are in for a thrill!”
