Shrewsbury hairdresser Ian Bezuidenhout has taken the leap in setting up his own salon to work alongside existing beauty business, The Beauty Lounge.

Ian, from Harlescott, started his hairdressing career as an apprentice with County Training’s apprenticeship programme, where he gained the skills and industry knowledge needed to help him achieve the success he has to date.

After approaching Shropshire Council’s County Training back in 2008 for help with his career development, Ian hasn’t looked back, progressing quickly from trainee stylist, to salon manager and now business owner.

The Beauty Lounge on Battlefield Enterprise Park is celebrating its first year operating as a successful business.  The team of three beauticians offers a range of professional beauty therapies at the salon, including manicures, pedicures, facials, massage, plus a selection of treatments for men.

Ian’s hairdressing and business skills has given them the opportunity to expand, to include his salon The Style Lounge, showing there is lots of positive activity going on for the local economy, despite the doom and gloom in the media.

Gill Smith, hair and beauty manager for County Training, said:

“We are so proud of everything Ian has achieved.  He proves that opportunities are available for apprentices who are determined and focused throughout their initial training.”

Ian is now keen to build on his existing customer base and would like to encourage new business.  He said:

“I’m really excited to be launching my services at The Style Lounge and am looking forward to welcoming new customers.”

Councillor Karen Burgoyne, Shropshire Council’s deputy Cabinet member for learning and skills, added:

“Ian used to cut my hair when he started out as a hairdresser and he was fab.  Now he has his own salon, I will be booking my appointment with him quickly in time for Christmas before everyone finds out where he is!  Congratulations Ian.”
