New interactive map of Shrewsbury launched
Shropshire Council has developed an interactive map of Shrewsbury Town Centre for use online on your computer, tablet PC or smart phone.
The map can be accessed via a QR code and provides a visitor guide for holidaymakers and useful information for local residents.
With sophisticated features such as embedded film guides and a host of visitor information, the new interactive map highlights key attractions such as museums, places of interest and town tours, as well as information on the Park and Ride routes, car parking and amenities.
Over the coming months it will also host additional contributions from the community to show off the best parts of our beautiful town through the eyes of those who know and love it best.
Councillor Keith Barrow, Leader of Shropshire Council, said:
“The Visit Shrewsbury interactive map is an excellent tool for visitors and residents alike to find out about the fantastic things to see and do in Shrewsbury. As more people than ever are using the Internet to arrange their holidays and leisure time, it is imperative that we embrace these technologies to provide an even better information service for users.”
Councillor Mike Owen, Cabinet member responsible for business support, tourism and culture, said:
“The interactive map has a personality that fits in with the sort of experience you’ll get on your visit. You’ll get to meet the everyday folk of the Shrewsbury and find out what the town has to offer – as well as learn a thing or two about its extraordinary history.”
The map is just one of the new initiatives being created under Destination Shrewsbury, a partnership organisation which brings together the public, private, voluntary and community sectors with the aim to promote business and tourism in Shrewsbury.
Edward Goddard, Chair of Destination Shrewsbury, said:
“The new map is very visually striking and engaging, and contains lots of film footage and photography which really helps to bring it to life. This is a fantastic way to learn about the rich and cultural heritage this historic town has to offer. I hope this will encourage many visitors to the Shrewsbury and help support our town’s local economy.”
The map is now live ‘in development’ and it will be modified and updated with new functionality over the coming months. You can access the map with your mobile phone via a QR (Quick Recognition) code or online here.
Destination Shrewsbury’s main aim is to promote Shrewsbury as a prime location to live, work, visit and invest in.
The partnership brings together the public, private, voluntary and community sectors including Shropshire Council, Shrewsbury Town Council, Shrewsbury Business Chamber and Tourism Association, and Shop in the Loop.
