New recruits sign up for Armed Forces Covenant in Shropshire

Two organisations have signed the Armed Forces Covenant in a pledge of support to Shropshire’s armed forces community in a ceremony at Shropshire Council’s Outreach project.

Shrewsbury Homes For All and the Soldiers of Shropshire Museum are the latest organisations in the county to sign the Covenant and officially signed the Covenant at an Outreach support session at Palmers Café in Shrewsbury.

The latest pledges takes the total number of businesses supporting the Armed Forces Covenant in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin to 120.

By signing the Covenant, businesses have made a number of pledges (including discounts and guaranteed job interviews etc.) and offers on how they intend to offer their support.

Shropshire Council is a Gold Award Holder of the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme and is recognised as one of the strongest advocates that currently exists.

Councillor Ian Nellins, Armed Forces Covenant lead at Shropshire Council, said:

“Our armed forces give so much and their support extends to across the county.

“We’re pleased to welcome Shrewsbury Homes For All and the Soldiers of Shropshire Museum to the Armed Forces Covenant and to further broaden the support network for Shropshire’s armed forces community.

“The Armed Forces Covenant has gone from strength to strength since its inception and I’d like to thank the new signatories for pledging their support.”

Brian Parr, chair of Shrewsbury Homes for All a registered charity supporting people who are homeless, in housing need or at risk of becoming homeless, said:

“As a local charity, we are proud to be part of the organisation supporting the Armed Forces community in Shropshire and we are delighted to share with our supporters that we are signatories to the Covenant.”

Richard Gough, director of the Soldiers of Shropshire Museum, added:

“Our mission as a military museum is to keep the memory and stories alive of the individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

“The British Army has been, and still is, continually evolving, yet the one constant has been the bravery of the men and women who have fought for our today and that is why we are pleased to have had the opportunity to sign the Covenant.”

As well as hosting the signings the Outreach group enjoyed an Easter raffle with prizes kindly donated by Tanners Wine, Sabrina Boat Trips, STFC, Lanyon Bowdler Solicitors, Wace Morgan Solicitors, Shrewsbury Golf Club, Planet Donut, RAMC Association Shropshire and Kayla Codd.
