Residents shape the future of adult care and support services in Shropshire
We are changing the way adult social care services are developed and delivered and we need your help.
These services have changed little over the past 30 years, but the people we serve and the county we live in has changed greatly. This is your chance to get involved to help create a new shared vision that fits the needs of Shropshire’s residents.
To be able to deliver the best care possible, it is no longer desirable to have a service where one size fits all, but a variety of tailored services, developed by the people who use them, their carers, supporters, families and friends.
We are asking you to get involved over the next three months. We are also holding a series of events across Shropshire throughout summer 2011, giving you the opportunity to share your views and experiences, helping us develop the best range of services for the people of our county. They will be held on the following dates:
- Greenhous Meadow, Shrewsbury Town Football Club – 29 July 2011 – 9.30am -12pm
- The Marches School, Oswestry – 4 August 2011 – 1.30pm–4pm
- Bridgnorth Leisure Centre – 18 August 2011 – 1.30pm–4pm
- Whitchurch Leisure Centre – 22 August 2011 – 1.30pm–4pm
- Ludlow Food Centre – 24 August 2011 – 1.30pm–4pm
- Feedback event at Council Chamber, Shirehall, Shrewsbury – 23 September 2011 – 9.30am-12pm
We will also be talking to a variety of people from advocacy groups to our partners such as the NHS, and with those who access our services on a day-to-day basis.
Councillor Ann Hartley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for care and well-being, said:
“Today we are launching the most comprehensive consultation exercises that Shropshire Council has ever carried out for adult social care and we want everyone to be part of it. To do this in the best way possible for the people of Shropshire, we need to this together. By that I mean, us working together, to create a shared vision for adult social care that will form the foundation for the way we deliver services in the future.
“People rightly have higher expectations of what they need to meet their own particular circumstances; they want greater control over their lives and the risks they take. They want dignity and respect to be at the heart of any interaction, they want to be given choice and to be able to access high-quality services and support closer to home, enabling them and their supporters to maintain or improve their well-being and independence.”
“Now is the time to forge new ways of delivering a modern and exiting vision for the care and support of adults in Shropshire. No decisions have been made on the future of care, but we must be clear, change is needed. We need to develop a 21st century service that is fit for the people it serves. So come along to the sessions and have your say of the future of care and support in our county.”
