Related topics: Leisure, culture and heritage

Shropshire Libraries is inviting people of all ages to take part in Green Libraries Week, from Wednesday 21 to Wednesday 28 October 2026.

Led nationally by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals, Green Libraries Week is an annual celebration of the role libraries play in supporting climate action and sustainability. This year’s theme, Climate Facts for a greener future: Navigating mis- and disinformation in libraries, highlights libraries as trusted places where people can find reliable information, build confidence and make informed choices.

Libraries across Shropshire will host a varied programme of activities designed to inspire curiosity and show how everyday actions can contribute to a greener future.

Events include Master Composters pop-ups, Veolia upcycling family crafts, Recycled Robots and Green Story Builders. Five libraries will also screen The People’s Emergency Briefing, offering residents another opportunity to learn about the climate and the choices open to communities.

Councillor Sarah Marston, Shropshire Council’s portfolio holder for communities and environment, said:

“Green Libraries Week is a wonderful opportunity for people of all ages to discover something new. Whether it is picking up practical ideas, exploring different perspectives or learning more about the environmental challenges and opportunities facing our communities, these activities will inspire curiosity and informed conversations. I hope residents will get involved and make the most of everything our libraries have to offer.”
