Clamping down on persistent parking offenders

Shropshire Council enforces parking regulations across the county to encourage safe and sensible parking by making the roads safer for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians – and help prevent obstructions to emergency vehicles and public transport.

The council’s Civil Enforcement Officers (CEOs) work tirelessly to advise drivers on where to park safely and legally, and where necessary issue Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) to those who do not.

While the majority of those who receive PCNs either pay the appropriate fee or successfully appeal, a small number of drivers persistently flout the law.

To discourage this and have a firm but fair approach, the council has put together a new policy and procedure for clamping and removing illegally parked cars.

Councillor Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member, said:

“Keeping the county’s roads clear is one of our top priorities, for the safety of both pedestrians and drivers.

“By introducing this new policy we simply aim to target the minority of worst offenders, making parking fairer for everyone.”

A report outlining this new policy will be discussed by the council’s Cabinet on Wednesday 15 June 2011.
