Shropshire Council rangers at Severn Valley Country Park are getting ready to welcome hundreds of visitors during February half term. The visitor centre and café will be open every day from Saturday 17 February 2018 to Sunday 25 February 2018 from 11am-4pm.

There will be a number of events held during half term. The events include a look at Mindfulness and Mediation for Beginners, a family stargazing evening, as well as a drop-in session to make bird feeders, and a celebration of winter.

After a successful ‘Mindfulness and Mediation: Beginners Part 1’ course with qualified instructor Mandy Clarke earlier in February, an additional course has been organised for Saturday 17 February. Those attending the course will be able to discover the benefits of mindfulness and learn a variety of meditation techniques.

Later that evening, the park rangers will be welcoming expert Peter Williamson who will be sharing his fantastic photographs of the night sky during a family stargazing evening. Unfortunately this event is now fully booked, but we hope to run it again next winter.

For the children we will be celebrating winter during two fun sessions on Wednesday 21 February. Winter officially ends with the spring equinox in March, so half term is the right time to take a closer look at this cold season by creating some wintery silhouette pictures and making snow and icicles that won’t melt! Our rangers will be exploring the park to see what it is like in winter.

Finally on Thursday 22 February, as National Bird Box week draws to a close, join the park rangers to make bird feeders from recycled plastic bottles. The bottles will be decorated into an eyecatching feeder to attract garden birds. There will also be time to mix up a tasty treat of bird seed, currents, grated cheese and chopped apple to fill the bird feeder and take home.
