Community comes together for Fairfields Fete in Gobowen
News from our partners Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing (STAR Housing)
Residents of Fairfield Close in Gobowen have raised a whopping £308 at their recent Fairfields Fete – they plan to use it to pay for activities for the tenants of the Close.
The fete, the first to take place in the Close, was held on Saturday 19 August 2017.
It saw the community come together to make what was a lovely day for everyone that attended.
Activities on the day included a ‘name the doll’ competition, lucky dip, a hula hoop competition (who could hula the longest), a glitter tattoo stall, a paper aeroplane competition (make your own to see whose could fly the furthest) and a raffle that was supported by local business – the Post Office, Tinsley’s Chip Shop, the Co-op in Gobowen and Stans Supermarket in St Martins – who between them provided the prizes.
There were also stalls which sold bric-a-brac that had been kindly donated by residents, their families and friends and a tombola stall.
In preparation for the fete, Sonia Jones, STAR Housing’s Housing Support Officer met regularly with tenants to help them to plan the day.
Sonia said:
“I’m so pleased that the day went well – it’s testament to the tenants and the time they dedicated to making it what it was. It has been lovely to see this project evolve and see the tenants working together.
“Historically the Close has had few events, but I hope that this will change things. I’ve heard that they’ve already been talking about a festive Christmas fete, which is brilliant.”
