Elton John concert – travel plan
Having worked in close partnership on the preparation of a travel plan for the upcoming Elton John concert at Greenhous Meadow stadium on 12 June 2011, Shrewsbury Town Football Club and Shropshire Council have now released details of the available car parking options for concert goers.
The travel plan has been developed to ensure concert goers are able to access and leave the event with the greatest ease and minimum delay, whilst managing disruption to residents in the area surrounding the stadium.
As part of the traffic management strategy a section of Oteley Road will be closed to general and through traffic for the duration of the event and enforceable on-street parking restrictions will be in force in residential areas surrounding the stadium, namely:
- Meole Estate
- Meole Village
- Sutton Park
- Reabrook
- Belle Vue south
- Sutton Farm
Shropshire Council will be writing to all residents in these areas to issue them with a parking pass that will allow them to park on-street during the concert. Anyone requiring more than one pass will be able to contact the council to request an additional one.
Concert goers will not be able to park in these areas and walk to the event. It should also be noted that these areas should not be used for picking up friends or relatives leaving the concert.
Arrangements are in place for local residents’ parking exemptions but all concert ticket holders, travelling to the concert by car, are strongly advised to purchase a car parking ticket prior to the concert date.
Parking passes are now available for purchase at £8 per car, guaranteeing a parking space at one of the many “Park and Walk” sites within 10 minutes walking distance of the stadium. Concert goers should note that there will be no park and walk sites available for cash sales on the day.
Any blue badge holders getting a lift to the concert or who intend to travel to the concert by taxi will need to bring their Blue Badge with them in order to be let into the stadium.
Those who have purchased one of the event’s “hospitality” options, which includes a parking space at the stadium, but intend to be dropped off or travel to the event by taxi will also need to bring their parking passes to be able to pass the road closure in Oteley Road.
Wheelchair users who have purchased a concert ticket need to contact the Shrewsbury Town Ticket office – details of the ticket bought will need to be given in order to purchase a disabled parking space at the stadium (ticket details will indicate a wheelchair seat allocation). Blue badges must be available on the day of the concert for inspection.
A Park and Ride facility will also be in operation at the Oxon Park and Ride site, on a pre-booked basis.
