Our Big Gig happening in Whitchurch on Saturday 11 July
Our Big Gig is nearly here – taking place this Saturday 11 July 2015 from 3pm at Centre NE in Whitchurch.
It is a free event, organised by Shropshire Council with the support of Whitchurch Town Council and local people, with something for everyone – a celebration of music, community and all things ‘Youthy’.
A double celebration in Whitchurch, remembering all the great times over the four decades since ‘Youthy’ has been open. Did you know it was opened in the early 1970s? Did you go to Centre NE youth club? Have you ever worked at the club? If so, we invite you to come along, bring photographs, memories and your friends and family, help us to create a memory wall of all the fun times and great youth work that has taken place over the last 40 years.
No party would be complete without music, we have some lined-up on the main and acoustic stages, including Strange Friends playing at 5pm. You can also have a go at drumming or learn some DJ skills; come along and take part in the workshops. Or join in the arts and crafts sessions – T-shirt printing and glitter tattoos, plus much more. Refreshments are also available.
Superact CIC and the Department of Communities and Local Government have joined forces in supporting groups to organise summer music celebrations. The England-wide project has been dubbed the nation’s largest community music festival and is taking place from 10-12 July 2015.
Communities Minister Baroness Williams said:
“Our Big Gig gives music lovers the chance to enjoy a weekend of free bands and top tunes in live local gigs across the country. You might get to dust off your dancing shoes. You might find your new favourite band. But by taking part, you will definitely will get to know your local community, helping to turn neighbours into friends – so I’d urge everyone to get on down to Centre NE in Whitchurch and see what’s going on.”
Locally, Shropshire Council are bringing this event to you to celebrate community music and Centre NE youth club. Kindly supported by Whitchurch Town Council and local people, we have raised enough money through crowd-funding to make this event happen. Thank you to all the generous people of the town for helping make this event a reality.
