Comley No 2 Bridge and Comley No 3 Bridge to close for essential repairs
Comley No 2 Bridge and Comley No 3 Bridge, which carry the Comley to Hollyhurst road over a watercourse near All Stretton, will be closed to traffic for up to one week starting on Monday 21 July 2014 to enable repairs to be carried out to them.
The work will involve parapet repairs to both bridges and the repair/clearance of road drainage channels.
Unfortunately, because of the narrow nature of the bridges, it is necessary to close both bridges to traffic to carry out the work safely.
When the road is closed, traffic will be diverted via Comley and Hollyhurst.
Access over the bridges for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the proposed work.
Claire Wild, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for bridge maintenance, said:
“This is essential work which needs to be carried out.
‘’It is appreciated that the bridge closures will cause some inconvenience, and everyone involved will do all that they reasonably can to reopen them as soon as possible.”
Tim Barker, local Shropshire Councillor for Burnell, said:-
“This is a well-used and important route for commercial, leisure and local traffic, and any closure is bound to be disruptive. I am confident that our highways team will work hard to ensure that this necessary work is completed as quickly as possible.”
