Groups invited to join adult social care event
Voluntary and community groups are being encouraged to attend an event about support services available in Shropshire – both to promote their work and to talk about volunteering opportunities.
The “Personalisation: Our Stories” event will be held at Shirehall in Shrewsbury on Friday 4 April 2014 and will explore how people can make the most of the adult social care support services that are available.
Shropshire Council is organising the event with the Voluntary and Community Sector Assembly, and is hoping for a good turnout from groups to run information stalls about what services are available in local communities.
The event is open to anyone who uses adult services, their family and friends, or anyone who has an interest in adult social care or is interested in volunteering.
As well as the information stalls, people will be able to share their experiences of using social care in a “Big Brother”-style video diary room, with all comments being used to help improve the way adult services are provided in the future.
Lee Chapman, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for adult services – transformation and safeguarding, said:
“It’s a great opportunity for voluntary and community groups to spread the word about how their services can help and support people.
“One of the aims of the event is to inform people of the volunteering opportunities out there, so it’s a good chance for organisations to meet potential volunteers too.”
People2People, an independent social work practice working with Shropshire Council to provide adult social care support, will be doing presentations about its work and how it helps people with personal budgets plan their support.
Lee Chapman added:
“The presentations from People2People will be extremely useful for people who use support services, as well as voluntary and community groups who will benefit from knowing how the system works.
“The administrators of the Community Directory will also be in attendance, so it’s a good chance for groups to make sure their services are included in the directory.”
