Plans aim to make council services easier to access and more joined-up for residents
Shropshire Council’s Digital Roadmap 2026–2030 will be considered by Cabinet on Wednesday 5 August 2026.
The roadmap sets out how the council proposes to use digital tools, data and new ways of working to improve services over the next four years.
If approved, the roadmap would support the council’s wider improvement work by making services easier to use, reducing unnecessary delays and providing a more joined-up experience for residents when they contact or interact with the council.
It includes proposals to improve online services, make better use of information and automation, and make it easier for residents to access services, receive clearer updates on requests, applications and cases, and avoid having to repeat the same information.
Councillor Alex Wagner, Shropshire Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet member for transformation and economic growth, said:
“This roadmap is about getting the basics right for residents and colleagues. Digital change is not just about technology; it is about making services simpler, clearer and more efficient, while making sure people can still get human support when they need it.
“We want people to find the right service more easily, receive better updates and avoid having to repeat the same information to different parts of the council. For staff, it means better tools and better information, so they can spend less time on duplication and administration and more time helping residents.
“The roadmap will be considered by Cabinet on 5 August and, if approved, will give us a clear direction for how digital, data and service improvement can support a more modern, sustainable council for Shropshire.”
The roadmap follows the council’s recently approved Digital Strategy and explains how it would be put into action. It supports the council’s ambition to respond to growing demand, improve customer experience and make better use of resources.
