Residents from Orchard Street, Barke Street and Coronation Street in Highley came together to tidy up their neighbourhoods at a recent ‘Community Clean Up’ event.

Around 15 tenants turned up to the clean-up event organised by Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing on Tuesday 25 February 2014.

Tenants were joined by Shropshire Council’s community action team to support the event, as part of Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing’s ongoing commitment to work with tenants to enhance and create vibrant communities.

Skips and litter-picking equipment were provided to help clear out people’s clutter and help smarten up the streets.

Jez Morris, Housing Officer for Shropshire Towns and Rural Housing, who organised the event, said:

“It was great to see local residents taking a keen interest in how their area looks.  We managed to fill three skips and we could really see the difference after the tidy up.  The clean up event also gave residents the opportunity to socialise and get to know each other better.

“I’d just like to say a big thank you to tenants and staff for going that extra mile in making their neighbourhoods better places to live.  We hope that other communities follow this positive example.”
