Christmas and New Year waste collection dates reminder
Shropshire Council and their waste contractor Veolia are reminding all residents that there will be changes to the refuse, garden waste and recycling collection dates over the Christmas and New Year period.
For most households, collections will take place a day later than usual; however, for some residents collections will actually be earlier than they might have expected.
All these dates are already clearly marked on the annual calendar delivered to all households, and residents will also receive an extra Christmas 2013 reminder leaflet which also shows the collection date changes.
Anyone who is in doubt can doublecheck their waste collection dates online at shropshire.gov.uk/binday.
The collection date changes are as follows:
- ‘Due’ date: Mon 23 Dec – collection will be Sat 21 Dec
- ‘Due’ date Tues 24 Dec – collection will be Mon 23 Dec
- ‘Due’ date Wed 25 Dec – collection will be Tue 24 Dec
- ‘Due’ date Thur 26 Dec – collection will be Fri 27 Dec
- ‘Due date Fri 27 Dec – collection will be Sat 28 Dec
- ‘Due’ date Mon 30 Dec – no change
- ‘Due’ date Tues 31 Dec- no change
- ‘Due’ date Wed 1 Jan – collection will be Thur 2 Jan
- ‘Due’ date Thurs 2 Jan – collection will be Fri 3 Jan
- ‘Due’ date Fri 3 Jan – collection will be Sat 4 Jan.
All waste collections will return to their normal patterns by Monday 6 January 2014.
The household recycling centres in Bridgnorth, Craven Arms, Oswestry, Shrewsbury and Whitchurch will be open as usual over the festive period from 9am to 5pm every day, except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day when they will be closed.
Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for waste management, said:
“We want to remind everyone to check their calendar or visit our online collection day finder to make sure bins and boxes are out for collection on the correct day during the holiday period, and to avoid the disappointment of missing a collection.”
Jon Callaghan, General Manager for Veolia, added:
“All these day changes are clearly highlighted on your calendars and on the reminder leaflet that our crews will deliver to all homes. We’ve scheduled these changes to keep the period of disruption to a minimum.”
