Farm offers fun and games

The spring Bank Holiday weekend sees Acton Scott Historic Working Farm open for a host of traditional fun and games in addition to its usual programme of activities and demonstrations.

Following on from previous successes, there will be skittles, quoits and bean bag throwing competitions each day, along with springtime demonstrations in the cottage and spring-themed trails and quizzes.

The farm’s weekend of traditional fun and games runs from Saturday 25 May 2013 to Monday 27 May 2013.  During the half-term holiday, a series of special trails and quizzes will run, in addition to the daily demonstrations and activities for visitors to enjoy.

Gwilym Butler, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for leisure, libraries and culture, said:

“Acton Scott Historic Working Farm is a great place to spend time over the Bank Holiday weekend and half-term following it.  The farm’s team of staff offer a fantastic welcome and, with the new ticketing offer that the farm has, visitors can keep coming back for the cost of a single ticket.”

Michael Turner, the farm’s manager, said:

“These sorts of events have proved very successful in the past.  There’s always the right mixture between visitors’ competitive streak and people just wanting to have great fun.”

For the 2013 season, Acton Scott Historic Working Farm is open Tuesdays to Fridays, 10am – 4.30pm, Saturdays and Sundays 10.30am – 5.00pm, through to 3 November (closed Mondays except Bank Holidays).  Each day on the farm is different, with a range of demonstrations and activities taking place alongside the necessary tasks that the land and stock require.

There is plenty of free parking, a shop and an excellent café.  More details of the season can be found at www.actonscottmuseum.com.
