Oswestry start-up club attracts young entrepreneurs
More than 30 people have attended a new business start-up club for Oswestry’s budding young entrepreneurs – and more are being encouraged to attend future meetings.
Instigated by Oswestry Joint Economic Board, the “Start Up Oswestry” club is run by Shropshire Council, Oswestry Town Council and Shropshire Enterprise Partnership to offer young business-minded people free information, support and access to finance.
Open to people aged 18-30 who are thinking of setting up their own business, the club is holding monthly meetings until September 2013 – and 31 people have attended the first six sessions, since October 2012.
Business ideas represented at the meetings so far include interior decoration, a fashion store, a cake-baking business, photography and printing, sports accessories, and men’s fashion.
The next meeting of the club is due to be held on Tuesday 9 April 2013 from 5.30pm until 7pm at The Guildhall in Oswestry. Tickets are free, but online registration is essential, via http://startupclubsoswestry.eventbrite.com/
Each meeting focuses on basic start-up information and aims to help young people put together a simple business plan, as well as offering support with sales and marketing, access to finance and help promoting their new enterprise.
Mark Pembleton, Shropshire Council’s service manager for business and enterprise, said:
“These clinics provide a great opportunity for Oswestry’s budding young entrepreneurs to gain valuable advice about setting up their own business. I encourage anyone aged 30 and under with a great business idea to come along, to find out how to turn that idea into a money-making business.”
The Start-up clinics are being held in Oswestry every second Tuesday of the month until September 2013. Future meetings are being held on the following dates, with each being held at The Guildhall in Oswestry:
- 9 April 2013
- 14 May 2013
- 11 June 2013
- 9 July 2013
- 13 August 2013
- 10 September 2013.
