Ludlow and Clee LJC gives out £27,290 in community grants
In the past 12 months, Ludlow and Clee Local Joint Committee (LJC) have granted £27,290 to local community-based projects.
This year Shropshire Councillors and representative from the town councils and parish councils have awarded 21 grants. The grants have been given to a wide variety of groups and projects throughout our area:
- All of the junior schools have had the opportunity to take part in after-school hockey training, leading to a tournament
- the members of Ludlow Swimming Club have benefited from the LJC paying for training for some of their volunteer coaches
- the Healthy Friendship group now runs fitness sessions in some of the parishes with equipment bought from their LJC grant, and Ludlow Carers have had a grant towards providing speakers and day trips for local carers
- St Laurence’s School have extra bikes which their pupils can use if they don’t have their own bike or are unable to get their bike to school for after-school bike club or for bike safety courses, and Clee Hill School have built a cob oven within their school grounds for themselves and community groups to use
- community buildings have also benefited – with new windows for the Women’s Centre, a new kitchen / office at Clee Hill nursery, new windows for the Ludlow Boxing Club, and microphones for the Assembly Rooms
- grants were awarded to community events too, such as the youth festival, Gallows Bank fireworks display, and the forthcoming Ludlow Fringe Festival and Small Gardens Festival
- also, to enhance this area with money towards litter picking and new planters, and assistance towards improving the public space at Caynham.
Vicky Turner, Shropshire Council’s community action officer for Ludlow, said:
“LJCs aren’t just about grants, they are a chance for the public to raise issues and concerns they have, to ask for items of community interest to be included on future agendas; and to ask for councillors, Shropshire Council officers, the police or other agencies to come and answer questions.
“If you would like to be involved in what happens in your community, come along to the next meeting which will be Thursday 20 June 2013 at the Bishop Hooper School, Ashford Carbonell at 7pm.”
There is a budget for community grants again this year, the closing date for applications being Thursday 9 May 2013. If you would like an application form, or more information, please contact Vicky Turner vicky.turner@shropshire.gov.uk or phone 07582 004017.
