The Craven Arms and Rural Local Joint Committee (LJC) will be discussing two important community buildings in Craven Arms on Wednesday 20 March 2013 at 7pm at Onibury Village Hall.

Officers from Shropshire Council, and South Shropshire Furniture Scheme’s chief executive, Jean Jarvis, will be present to give updates on the future plans for Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre and the Community Centre respectively.

There will also be a presentation on the importance of work supporting tourism in the area by a representative from Shropshire Hills Tourism.

West Mercia Police will be in attendance from 6.30pm for people to raise any concerns outside of the main public meeting.  During the meeting they will highlight recent issues and take questions from members of the public.

Lisa Bedford, Shropshire Council’s community action officer, said:

“These two buildings are used by many residents of Craven Arms and the surrounding area; do come along and hear what the future has in store for them.”

At the last meeting in November 2012 the committee granted financial assistance to the following projects:

  • South Shropshire First responders – £2,372 was granted towards the purchase of a 4×4 vehicle
  • Craven Arms Community Centre – £2,350 was granted towards an initiative to provide free taster events to bring new people into the centre.

There are a further three applications for consideration at this meeting.  Anyone wishing to apply for a grant in time for the next meeting would need to submit an application by the beginning of June 2013.
