New signs set to provide boost to Ellesmere
New signs are set to go up in Ellesmere next month (April 2013) to help promote the town’s events and attractions to visitors.
A new events sign is to be installed opposite The Mere in Ellesmere next month to help promote the 11 annual events that take place in the town – including Ellesmere Food and Drink Festival, Ellesmere Regatta and Ellesmere Festival.
And, following a review of the town’s ‘fingerposts’, 10 new posts are to be added to direct people to the Ellesmere Sculptures and Ellesmere Market Hall. At the same time, the existing posts will be repainted and refurbished.
The new events sign is being produced by Shropshire-based Shelley Signs, and has been designed so that it is in keeping with the Mereside interpretation, and so that it can be viewed by people entering and leaving Ellesmere.
The new signage follows a public consultation which found that signage and visitor flow through the town was key to improving the vitality of Ellesmere, and that there was a clear desire to reinstate the events notice at the town gateway to raise awareness of the events taking place in the town.
The work is being paid for using funding from Shropshire Council’s Market Towns Revitalisation Programme (MTRP).
Under the MTRP, Shropshire’s 11 smallest market towns – including Ellesmere – were able to bid for a share of £500,000 to spend on projects that would enhance and boost their town.
Ellesmere visitor experience is a key priority for both Shropshire Council and Ellesmere Town Council, who have been working in partnership with key stakeholders in the town to implement the MTRP project.
Ann Hartley, local Shropshire Councillor for Ellesmere Urban, said:
“This project has taken in all the feedback from extensive consultation and offered partners such as Ellesmere Town Council, Ellesmere Chamber Of Commerce and event organisers an opportunity to get involved. We are delighted that work will be complete in time for our busy schedule of activities.”
