Singers, bands and dancers invited to perform at Minsterley farmers market
Local singers, dancers and music groups are being given the chance to perform in front of hundreds of people at the Rea Valley local produce market in Minsterley.
Pop groups, rock bands, dance groups, choirs and even handbell ringers are all being encouraged to come forward.
Held throughout the year at Minsterley Village Hall, this year the market will take place on the following Sundays, between 10am and 2pm: 10 March, 12 May, 7 July, 6 October, and 15 December.
The Rea Valley local produce market was established in October 2011 thanks to a £2,000 grant from Shropshire Council’s Market Towns Revitalisation Programme.
Dom Creighton, the market manager, said:
“The market has been a huge success since it was first held in October 2011 and has gone from strength to strength. Now, we want to give local singers and musicians the chance to perform at the markets, which can attract up to 600 people throughout the day.
“Unfortunately we can’t pay the performers, but we can offer the chance to perform in public, in front of hundreds of people.”
Mike Owen, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for economic growth and prosperity, said:
“Rea Valley Local Produce market is one of dozens of projects that have benefited from Market Towns Revitalisation Programme funding. I’m delighted that it is proving so successful, and providing a real boost to Minsterley and Pontesbury.”

The most recent Rea Valley local produce market was held on 16 December 2012. This was the Christmas market, with a host of festive food, drinks and gifts available to buy, and a visit from Father Christmas to hear children’s Christmas wishes.
At the spring market in 2012 visitors were able to see an alpaca, and to order a Jubilee celebration cake from Dom Creighton, who also runs Celebration Cakes from her home in Pontesbury.
At the 2012 summer market there was a dance display by Hanwood Community Dance Group ‘Kickz’, and Sure Start used the market as an opportunity to promote their new children’s centre, which is also at Minsterley Parish Hall.
