A Shrewsbury arts venue has pledged support for the new tourism initiative which is being rolled out across the the town.  The Hive Music and Media Centre has joined ‘the original one-off Shrewsbury’ campaign, which aims to showcase the county town’s unique architecture and shopping experience, in an effort to boost the number of visitors.

The campaign and exciting new brand for the town has recently been developed by Destination Shrewsbury, which consists of a range of organisations, including Shropshire Council, Shrewsbury Town Council, tourism associations and local businesses.

It is hoped that the campaign will give a clear and strong message about why Shrewsbury is so special, highlighting that there really is nowhere else which provides everything that Shrewsbury does.

Habib Malik-Mansell from The Hive said:

“We felt it was important to join the campaign and to help do our bit in terms of promoting Shrewsbury as a tourism destination with a real difference.  The Hive is an extremely diverse youth arts charity and community venue and, as such, we are certainly a one-off with all the creative opportunities that we offer.  By joining the campaign early on ourselves, we will hopefully be able to encourage other local attractions and independent businesses to take part.”

Mike Owen, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for tourism and culture, said:

“I am delighted The Hive has joined Destination Shrewsbury’s campaign.  I encourage all Shrewsbury businesses to join this campaign.  By working together we can really push the Shrewsbury offer and promote our town as a nationally-recognised visitor destination and the original one-off.”

It is hoped that more local businesses and organisations will also back the campaign and promote themselves as a Shrewsbury one-off over the coming months.  A free pack of promotional material has been prepared for businesses to use to highlight the town, and this can be requested from the tourism officer at Shropshire Council.
