Residents can now find the collection day for their rubbish, recycling and garden waste using a new online collection day finder on the Shropshire Council website.

The collection day finder can be found by going to www.shropshire.gov.uk/waste and following the link. People simply need to enter their postcode to find out when their next collection is due.

The aim of the collection day finder is to make it as quick and easy as possible for people to check their collection dates, including changes due to Bank Holidays.

It will complement the annual collection calendar that is delivered to households.

Mike Owen, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for economy and waste, said,

“Shropshire Council’s Customer Service Centre answers more than 50,000 waste-related phone calls each year, and thousands of these are specifically requesting information on their collection dates, or asking for a new or replacement calendar to be posted out.

“Providing this information online will make it much more convenient for people, who can now check their dates directly from their computer or smart phone. It will also reduce the need for people to call us to check their collection date, or ask for a calendar, and should prove especially useful for people who have just moved house or during Bank Holidays.”

Martin Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Council cabinet member for transport and IT, said:

“The online waste collection day finder demonstrates our commitment to using IT to deliver essential public services more cost-effectively and intelligently. I‘d like to congratulate the in-house web development team who have done a fantastic job on this and encourage the public to use the new collection day finder.”

The collection day finder was developed in-house by Shropshire Council’s Web Development Team, using data derived from the Local Land and Property Gazetteer and council waste collection schemes, combined with information from the council’s waste collection contractor, Veolia Environmental Services (UK) Ltd.
